It’s been a slow week for photos on my daily walks; and I had planned to spend some time photographing the hummingbirds this weekend, but yesterday slipped away from me, and today is completely miserable. So, it was into my archive of photos to edit instead.
The following are a pretty random group of photos, the only real common element being lovely light.
I hope you enjoy!
A leopard in the Okavango Delta in bright, early morning light. I love the glow of the long grasses framing the leopard. An Okavango sunset, with hints of light on the marsh grasses.A lone giraffe traverses through the low, scrubby brush at Phinda Game Reserve.A pair of springbok near Sossusvlei, Namibia. I think the glow of the sun provides an interesting outline to the pair.I don’t quite know what it is about this photo, but I really like it.
This pair of young elephants were such a joy to watch. They spent time playing with sticks (the discarded one on the roadway had been proudly carried by the closer of the two for some time), tussling and chasing each other, and nibbling on the leaves and grasses.
A red winged blackbird sings his heart out. I was so glad to see this bird singing, as the song has been tormenting me from the bushes for years, and I could never figure out who was making the sound until this past weekend.A bit of a silly photo; the bird taking flight looks like a turtle to me 🙂A northern flicker perched atop a power pole.
I spent last weekend in the Lower Mainland, and took some time Saturday morning to head out to my old stomping ground along the dikes to see what I could see. I was surprised not to see a single osprey nesting, no herons, eagles or hawks… but the smaller songbirds and swallows were out in force to the far end of the dike, where there are usually less people.
Bird on a wire… I love it when the swallows pause long enough for a photo.Try as I might, I can’t make an ID of this bird; but it was singing the loveliest songs.A red-winged blackbird.A hummingbird trying to bully a swallow.A swallow perched in the tree, whilst many others swooped overhead, collecting bugs.An American Goldfinch eyeing a hummingbird rather wearily. The hummingbird had been going after any other bird in what she considered to be her territory. I guess this was a moment of truce.A sunny spring morning along the Pitt River.
Closer to home…
I spotted this bunny while out walking this morning (along with a trio of deer). I loved the sunlight illuminating the ears.I’m not 100% sure, but I believe this is a hermit thrush that I spotted int he bushes while out walking.
