2016-06-17: Feel Good Friday

These lions were amazing to spend time with while in the Sabi Sands in South Africa.  Over the course of a few days we spent time with them on two kudo kills, watched as the female chose which of her suitors she preferred (the one pictured here, of course) and even saw them mating several times.  Animal interaction in the bush is always exciting, and I learned new things which each game drive.

Thinking about spending time in the bush, and looking through my pictures, certainly helps to put me in a great mood 🙂

Here’s to a great weekend ahead!

Enjoy your Friday! 🙂

Yawn… it’s the end of the week.

2016-06-16: WPC Pure (#2)

I came across this photo and it fit so beautifully with the previous post I did for the topic pure, that I had to share this one as well.

2016-06-14: WPC Pure

It was wonderful watching the group that these two zebras were a part of; there were several youngsters in the group, but this little one was by far the tiniest.  She spent lots of time nuzzling close to mom, and when she curled up for a rest, Mom kept a watchful eye and was never far away.

I find it so peaceful to spend time bearing witness to these animal’s lives, if only for a few moments.  That’s my take on this week’s topic: Pure.

2016-06-12: What I’ve seen this week

I’ve chastised myself for this before, but apparently I hadn’t learned the lesson well enough.
This morning I went out for a walk…without my camera.  And then saw the first foxes I’ve seen in the daytime. 🙁
So, all I can share of this are some grainy cellphone snaps… and hopefully, I’ve finally learned my lesson!

I'm grateful neither fox was hit as they were darting back and forth across the road and running along the top of the medians.

2016-06-10: Feel Good Friday

It’s been AGES since I posted an ellie photo, hasn’t it?

I really hope no one is getting bored with the number of elephant photos I share, but honestly, they just bring up such happy memories when editing and viewing them, it would be hard not to.

Happy Friday, and have a lovely weekend 🙂

2016-06-05: What I’ve seen this week

I spent some time Saturday morning watching the birds in the backyard, and happened to be at the right place at the right time to see a male and female western tanager pass through the yard.  It was only the third time I’ve ever seen these birds, and the first opportunity to photograph, so needless to say, I was thrilled.

I had another interesting sighting earlier in the week; while out on my bike I spotted an interesting bird with a very long beak.  After looking on my bird app, I figured it was likely a long-billed curlew, a first time I have seen the species.  I hopped in the car with my camera to see if they were still in the area, and luckily managed a couple photos.

That’s enough of the chatter, I hope you enjoy the birds I have seen this week 🙂

A dark-eyed oregon junco with her chicks.  Even though the ground was full of sunflower seeds that I spilled earlier in the day whilst filling up feeders, the chicks still wanted Mom to feed them.

I was watching the hummingbirds with camera in hand when I saw a flash of yellow land behind some branches.  I moved slowly to get a better vantage point, worried I would scare the bird off before getting to ID it.

The male and female tanagers arrived at separate times and only stayed a minute or to.  I was really lucky to have seen them.

A pair of long-billed curlews with a chick (mid photo far right).  I was taking photos when pulled over on the side of the main road into my neighbourhood, so I didn’t spend any time adjusting settings; a couple quick photos then I was off.
