2016-06-19: Artistic Impressions

This week we have had some truly awful weather (I heard it referred to as Junuary, and that was pretty appropriate since the high one day was 6C with 60+mm of rain) and as such, I haven’t been out with the camera much.  So, I thought I would share a few of the photos I call my ‘Artistic Impressions”.  Generally, I like to keep colour photos as true to life as I can remember, and take my liberties with monochrome edits to highlights the subject to it’s best advantage.  Sometimes though, a photo seems to be asking for more, and I take it (for me) to an over the top place.  I’ve been having some fun recently doing more of these artistic edits, and thought I would share a few today, since I don’t have anything else.

Have a great week everyone!

An interesting afternoon in the Sabi Sands, the skies built and a fantastic electrical storm followed about an hour after this.

Dead Vlei in Namibia; reducing the saturation really made the footprints in the dunes stand out.

2016-06-10: Feel Good Friday

It’s been AGES since I posted an ellie photo, hasn’t it?

I really hope no one is getting bored with the number of elephant photos I share, but honestly, they just bring up such happy memories when editing and viewing them, it would be hard not to.

Happy Friday, and have a lovely weekend 🙂

2016-05-29: All About the Light

It’s been a slow week for photos on my daily walks; and I had planned to spend some time photographing the hummingbirds this weekend, but yesterday slipped away from me, and today is completely miserable.  So, it was into my archive of photos to edit instead.

The following are a pretty random group of photos, the only real common element being lovely light.

I hope you enjoy!

A leopard in the Okavango Delta in bright, early morning light. I love the glow of the long grasses framing the leopard.

A pair of springbok near Sossusvlei, Namibia. I think the glow of the sun provides an interesting outline to the pair.

I don’t quite know what it is about this photo, but I really like it.

2016-04-26: Namibia by Air

I’ve seen only a small portion of Namibia, but what I did see, was absolutely breathtaking.  We utilized small plane transfers to move between lodges in different regions, and combined a scenic air tour of the coast on one of the transfer legs, in order to squeeze in a bit more sightseeing into a very picked itinerary.  I’ve posted a few photos from the air transfers before, but decided to edit the balance I had flagged and create a single post of images.

I hope you enjoy, and have a wonderful day!

Gorgeous textures in the hills, and such a wide variety of colours.

There were amazing views in every direction, and through all the flights, we only saw a handful of vehicles, until we got very close to either Windhoek or Swakopmund.

I believe this was an abandoned mining community, but I’m not 100% sure. Whatever it was, the sand is reclaiming the land back to nature.

We flew over several huge flocks of flamingos… I hope one day to see these birds up close to photograph them.
