2017-03-03: WPC – A Good Match

Hanging out with the buffalo is definitely a good match for the egret, but I am not so sure it is a two-way street.  The buffalo’s movement and grazing causes insects to scatter, becoming easy prey for the egrets that walk alongside the herd of buffalo.  Here the buffalo was wading in shallow water at the edge of the river, and the egret is just catching a ride.

2017-02-05: What I’ve seen this week

The early part of this past week I had a couple of great wildlife sightings in the neighbourhood, but after Tuesday, nothing at all.  Fingers crossed for an interesting week ahead.

On my late afternoon walk Monday I spotted this barred owl at the top of my road.  I managed a couple quick shots before it flew off.  It was snowing and quite gloomy, so not an excellent photo, but an exciting sighting for me.

Tuesday I spotted this fox in the backyard while working.  It hung around for about five minutes before disappearing into the bushes.

Here the fox is investigating the deer bowl.  I’ve not seen the deer now in about 3 weeks, since we had our thaw and refreeze.  The squirrels, ravens, grey jays and magpies are enjoying the food source though.  Soon enough it will be time to put all that away as spring shows up and the bears start to awaken.

2017-01-24: WPC Graceful

I can’t think of anything more graceful than watching birds in flight.  Trying to capture that grace and beauty with my camera is a challenge that I am always happy to undertake 🙂

2017-01-22: What I’ve seen this week

Actually, I guess this should be more appropriately titled What I Saw Last Week, as none of the photos are from the last 7 days. It’s typed now though and no point in wasting time changing it.  On to the photos, and wishing everyone a great week ahead.

Chickadees rarely sit still, so I am glad I managed to get a clear shot of this little one.

A coyote made a visit to my yard one day; (s)he didn’t spend too long and I am grateful I looked out the window when I did to get these few photos.

On my way back from town, I spotted this barred owl up the road; I quickly rushed home and grabbed my camera.  The owl was very far back from the road, and didn’t stick around long.

Now you see it, now you don’t.  I only managed a couple minutes watching the owl (which was my first owl sighting of the year).

2016-12-29: WPC Path

The end of the year is a great time to reflect on the path that has been travelled over the year, and the ones that you hope to travel on in the coming year.  2016 has been an interesting, and really good year.  The photos below encompass some of my thoughts about the various paths that I am on.

There are times when the path is clear; you know where you are going and the way is easily defined.  If you have to retrace your steps for some reason, it’s easy to get back where you started.

On some days, the path might seem barren and you feel all alone, but you never know what might pop up ahead.

Sometimes others will doubt that you are on a path at all; they will question your direction and your vision.  But you know exactly where you are going.

Sometimes you need to create your own path.  You can’t see where you are headed, and if you try to turn around, the way is just as obscured.  Going on intuition is the only way forward.

Sometimes the only thing to do is take a break, rest, and return to the path later on.  This is especially true when you have no idea what you are doing, or where you are going!

2016 Year in Review #5

I decided to take a look back at my most “popular” posts of 2016 – going only by the number of post views; since many of them are from the earlier part of 2016, I’ll be sharing them again over the next few days, along with a new photo related to the the original post.

I hope you enjoy this trip down memory lane 🙂

Coming in at #5 is the post 2016-02-07: What I’ve seen this week.  I was lucky to see a pair of eagles during my daytime walk back in February, under lovely blue skies.

The photo below was one that I originally dismissed, but looking at it again, I really like the triangles of light hitting the eye, beak and back, which tie together with all the triangles created with the mess of tree branches.
