I wanted to share a few landscape scenes from some of the camps I stayed at this past May. The first two images were taken while staying at Lion Sands Tinga Lodge, and the last image was taken while staying at Chitwa Chitwa.

DSCF3400 — Blinded by the light! We stopped for a quick view of the river as the sun roe behind; but I definitely didn’t have time to do anymore than a single quick photo and then we were off again.

DSCF3416 — A different portion of river later in the morning. The tall reeds amongst the meandering water could be hiding all manner of animals. I’ve seen both leopard and lions in conditions like this.

2019-09-02: Monochrome Monday

Today I wanted to share a few of the images that I captured while driving the Panorama Route in South Africa earlier this year. It’s a beautiful scenic drive with lots of opportunities to stop and take short walks to view waterfalls and breathtaking vistas, like the three rondavels. If you are travelling to South Africa, it is definitely a day trip worth taking.

2019-07-22: Monochrome Monday

I spent a bit of time playing with my infrared filter while traveling, and while it is a style I definitely need to explore and practice more, I am quite pleased with how these images turned out.

I actually remembered to do the custom white balance before taking these images, which made editing them a more straightforward process once I got home. I’m actually considering having one of my cameras converted to infrared sometime in the future, to make it a bit easier to explore this genre of photography.

DSCF2905 — This beautiful tree is at the edge of the river, seen from the main deck at Lion Sands River Lodge.

DSCF3350 — This is the river view from the main deck at Lion Sands Tinga Lodge. The long exposures that are necessary when using a traditional camera with IR filter showcase the movement of the water, and the breeze playing with the leaves and the grasses.

2019-06-24: Monochrome Monday

There is definitely more to see in South Africa than just wild animals on safari. On some previous trips, I had the pleasure of spending time in Cape Town. On this trip, I got to do a day trip of the Panorama Route. Here are a few images showing some of the beautiful scenery in the area.

2019-05-06: Monochrome Monday

I’m currently traveling so posts will be brief, but I wanted to share an image from my travels so far. I did a day trip on the Panorama Route Sunday, and enjoyed seeing amazing landscapes throughout the day.

The day started out a little bit hazy, but cleared throughout the day and in the end, the weather couldn’t have been more perfect for exploring.

2019-05-05: Lisbon Falls

Greetings from South Africa! I’m so happy to be back in one of my favourite places.

I did a trip along the Panorama Route today, and explored Lisbon Falls, Berlin Falls, the Potholes, God’s Window and the Three Rondavels.

A relaxing glass of wine is calling my name, so I have just edited a single image for now.

I’m heading into the bush tomorrow, so I won’t have a lot of time to post, but I will try my best to keep up my normal Sunday, Monday and Wednesday schedule.

2019-03-25: Monochrome Monday

I’m keeping with yesterday’s Palm Springs theme, but this time, a black and white interpretation.

DSCF1857 copy-Edit — Lots and lots of desert plants, speaking loudly without any words. So clearly saying “Look, but do not touch”.

P1040349 — This was taken in the back garden of the property I stayed at. I kept hearing a familiar call, but didn’t realize that there were flickers in Southern California. Here, it is being tormented by a couple of Costa’s hummingbird. All I had to hand was my Panasonic camera, which at full zoom leaves something to be desired, but I’d rather have the moment than not. I always find it interesting seeing tiny hummingbirds bossing around much larger birds.

2019-03-24: Palm Springs

I have officially thrown in the towel on my signs of spring topic of the month. I really should have thought it through a bit more, and made it the topic for April, but c’est la vie, what is done, is done. I did see my first robin of the year this morning though, so the signs of spring are appearing on a daily basis now, just not in the right context for taking photos.

Anyhow, I thought instead I would share a few more images from my trip to Southern California last October. I am gearing up for travel at the end of April, and really trying to work through all the backlog of images to edit, so when I get home, I can start right in with new images. Fingers crossed.
