nature – Page 52 – Jennifer Sawicky Photography

It seems a bit strange to pre-schedule posts so far in advance. As I type this, it is still April, and when this gets uploaded, I’ll be on my last week of holidays in Africa. I know I will be coming home with lots of images and stories to share.

This week’s selection is another mixed bag from my time in Kenya.

2017-05-14: Masai Mara

The wildlife in the Masai Mara was just as amazing as it looks in all the nature programs that I watch. Here is a selection of images from my time there.

DSC_9893-Edit — The chaos of a river crossing.

migration — Waiting somewhat patiently for the chance to move up the steep slope.

migration-2 — As more an more animals moved up the banks, the ones that had slipped and fallen were stepped on.

migration-3 — A sad group of wildebeest too weak or injured to get up the banks. We left shortly after this, so I don;t know if any of them found the strength to continue, or if they ended up as food for the crocs.

DSC_9766-Edit — Thankfully this one made it back out alive. Of the five I saw try, only two made it out.

DSC_9705-Edit — A topi with two little ones. They are a very stately looking antelope.

DSC_9645-Edit — A group of mongoose that took over a termite mound.

2017-05-08: Monochrome Monday

I decided on a bit of a mixed bag this week from my time in Kenya.

Wishing everyone a wonderful week ahead.

P1010780-Edit — A lion contemplating whether to get up, or go back to sleep. Sleep won, at least while we were there.

DSC_9929-Edit — A group of wildebeest make it to the banks of the river, avoiding the crocodiles and being trampled.

DSC_9320-Edit — One elephant of a large herd that passed through the Ol Kinyei Conservancy near the Masai Mara. It was such a joy to spend time with so many ellies.

2017-05-07: The birds of Amboseli

One of the things that surprised me most about Amboseli was spending time watching the birds in the marsh. I had gone there expecting flat plains, lots of dust and lots of elephants, and I definitely got that, but the birds were an unexpected surprise. I guess you could say I didn’t do a ton of research on the area before going there, and perhaps that is a good thing, as then surprises await at every turn on the road.

Today I have a rather large selection of bird images, I hope you enjoy seeing some of the feathered beauties of Amboseli.

2017-05-01: Monochrome Monday

This monochrome Monday is features some of the primate images from my time in Uganda. Trekking to see gorillas and chimpanzees is a bucket list item for many, and it is something that I would highly recommend.
